AMMONIUM CARB: A SPOILED BRAT

One of the most misunderstood and less-explored remedy from the chest of polychrests is Ammonium Carb. It was only limited to the acute prescription in the cases of snuffles and cholera like symptoms during catamenia.

But on exploration, Ammonium Carb. turns out to be a SPOILED BRAT. One who is in habit of leading a sedentary life. He wants to remain in his ownself1, at ease2, absorbed3 in his own world, without much contradiction4 in his lifestyle.

1.      BED: REMAIN IN, DESIRES TO

HOMESICKNESS

BESIDE ONESELF, BEING

2.      INDOLENT

3.      ABSORBED

4.      CONTRADICTION: INTOLERANT OF

He is very cheerful5, defiant6, ecstatic7, exuberant8, vivacious9, when he is at peace and leading the life his own way. Although he is lazy but very intelligent10, so he is favourite among his teachers.

5.      CHEERFULNESS

6.      DEFIANT

7.      ECSTASY

8.      EXUBERANCE

9.      VIVACIOUSNESS

10.   INDOLENCE, AVERSION TO WORK: INTELLIGENT, ALTHOUGH VERY

Ammonium carb’s complaints begin when he has to leave his bed i.e. his sedentary and sessile lifestyle (situation to which he is adapted and is very comfortable in). This could be at physical or mental plane. Eg. From doing work11; from working faster than before12; from contradiction13; from disappointment or deception14.

11.   BUSINESS: AILMENTS FROM, AGG.

12.   HURRY, HASTE: AILMENTS FROM, AGG

13.   CONTRADICTION: AILMENTS FROM, AGG.

14.   DISAPPOINTMENT, DECEPTION AGG., AILMENTS FROM

His loss of comfort (physical or mental) makes him so susceptible that he becomes sensitive to all external impressions15; cowardice16; hypochondriasis17; imbecility18 to such an extent that he starts imagining himself as criminal19.

He broods and plans to talk about the things he had been hurt by, all the night, but forgets in morning20.

15.   SENSITIVE, OVERSENSITIVE: IMPRESSIONS, TO ALL EXTERNAL

16.   COWARDICE

CONFIDENCE, WANT OF SELF

17.   HYPOCHONDRIASIS

18.   IMBECILITY

19.   DELUSIONS, IMAGINATIONS: CRIMINAL, THAT HE IS A

DELUSIONS, IMAGINATIONS: CRIME; COMMITTED, HE HAD

20.   DWELLS: EVENTS, ON PAST DISAGREEABLE: NIGHT: OTHERS, CAUSED BY, PLANS TO TALK TO THEM ABOUT IT, BUT FORGETS IN MORNING

He becomes irritable; morose; sad; quarrelsome; discontented with everything; indifferent.

Rubrics describing his state are as follows:

21.   IRRITABILITY: WEATHER: STORMY IN

22.   IRRITABILITY: WEATHER: RAIN OR CLOUDY IN

23.   IRRITABILITY: MENSES: DURING: AGG

24.   QUARRELSOME, SCOLDING: MENSES: DURING

25.   HELPLESSNESS: HEART COMPLAINTS, IN

26.   MOROSE, SULKY: MENSES: DURING

27.   WEEPING, TEARFUL MOOD: RISING, AFTER

28.   CONFUSION OF MIND: MENSES: DURING

29.   DREAMS: WANT OF

30.   DISCONTENTED: EVERYTHING WITH

The word “menses” here refers to the loss in the comfort zone.

This spoiled brat becomes unmanageable and hysteric. He develops want of moral feelings. Envy, maliciousness and capriciousness defines him at this stage.

I sum up here describing only the picture of spoiled brat, although, a lot more is hidden to explore about the personality of ammonium carbonicum.

MANAGING ASTHMA PATIENTS : A BRIEF

On an average I come across 3 to 4 asthma patients daily, so I thought of writing this blog and sharing some of my experience in managing the asthma patients in our daily homoeo opds. Begining with the basic meaning of the term medically, it is an inflammatory disease of the airways that is characterised by increased responsiveness of the tracheobronchial tree to various stimuli, resulting in widespread spasmodic narrowing of the airways. The acute attacks are characterised by wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness and cough.
Managing a case of Bronchial Asthma has been always a difficult subject even for many Homoeopaths. It requires a lot of patience, hard work, and zeal to understand and treat such patients to bring them into the stage of CURE.
According to me, for the treatment of asthma, we need a thorough knowledge of miasmatic background of the patient alongwith the exciting and maintaining causes. Where, exciting and maintaining factors help in selection of the similimum, miasmatic background knowledge helps in removal of the main obstacle to the cure, selection of potency, repitition of dose and medicine, prognosis, and evaluation of effect of medicine.
Here, I will give a few tips to identify the miasm in the background..

PSORIC miasm
Often one finds in the history that there has been suppression of skin eruptions and onset of asthma can be traced to a period after the suppression
Symptoms- (a) More Spams and less secretions
( b) Sudden breath holding spasms
                  (c) Expectoration is very scanty, mucoid, tasteless
Exciting factors - Emotional and psychological conditions usually trigger
Modalities- Better from (a) Reappearance of skin eruptions

SYCOTIC miasm
Usually, there will be a history of suppression of discharges from mucus membranes, suppression of sweat, and other discharges.
Symptoms- (a) Cough, with marked secretions, scanty difficult expectoration
                  (b) Expectoration is thick, greenish, yellow.
                  (c)  Cannot breathe through nose.
Exciting factors- (a) Getting wet in rains
                         (b) Rainy season
Modalities- Better in dry weather and from re-establishment of discharges.

TUBERCULAR masm
We, often, get a history of repeated upper respiratory infections leading to asthmatic attacks
Symptoms- (a) Cough with excessive expectoration
                  (b) Expectoration is purulent, muco-purulent or even bloody
Exciting factors- (a) viral, or bacterial infections
                         (b) cold air, exprosure to cold
Modalities- Better under sun, or as the day advances

SYPHILITIC miasm
When irreversible changes has took place in lungs parenchyma. eg. emphysematous changes in lungs
Symptoms- Barking cough.

A well selected remedy may  also fail to work, if the patient does not take care in avoiding the maintaining factors. So following points has to be followed by the patient :-
1. Take freshly prepared, light, nourishing foods.
2. Do not overload your stomach.
3. Avoid long intervals between meals
4. Do not drink milk at night
5. Avoid preserved tinned food, pickles, fatty and fried foods, spices
6. Diet should include salads, leafy vegetables, germinated grams
7. Non vegetarians should avoid egg, meat, but can take fish only if it agrees.
8. Dinner should be taken at least an hour before going to bed
9.Avoid allergens as much as possible
10. Avoid sudden thermal changes
11. Quit smoking and avoid smokers
12. Avoid keeping pets in the house

I will end this article with the common but most neglected saying:

   PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE
But still if you are seeking for the cure, Homoeopathy is the answer.
